Check cleaning first
Most dull finishes come from oil, oxide, or residue left on the surface. Re-clean the part and avoid touching it before plating.
Increase current carefully
A nickel deposit can stay dull if current density is too low. Increase in small steps while watching for a smoother, brighter appearance.
Look at agitation and spacing
Weak bath movement and poor anode placement can starve the surface and reduce brightness. Add gentle agitation and improve part orientation.
Evaluate bath age
If the bath has seen repeated use, brightener activity may be low. A brightener additive can restore cosmetic performance when prep and current are already correct.
