How nickel electroplating works

Nickel electroplating uses a controlled direct-current circuit to deposit nickel on a prepared workpiece. The part sits in a nickel plating solution and is connected to the negative side of the circuit, while suitable nickel anodes connect on the positive side. When current flows, nickel ions in the bath are reduced onto the workpiece.

The deposit follows the underlying surface, so plating does not hide scratches, pits, or poor cleaning. A usable setup needs more than chemistry: a compatible tank, nickel anodes, reliable connections, an adjustable DC power supply, and the right cleaning sequence.
